Belfast Coffee Tour

The guys from Belfast Coffee Tours and Belfast Coffee Map have teamed up to show you some of Belfast’s Specialty Coffee Shops. Join them as they lead you on a walking tour of this vibrant city, stopping off at a selection of coffee hot spots whilst learning about the enchanting history and architecture of Belfast along the way. You will have the opportunity to experience the unique and exciting style of some of Belfast’s best baristas, hear about how coffee is roasted locally and where it is sourced, and most importantly taste some of the city’s best. So why not stretch your legs after all the CoLab caffeine-fueled few days and see what Belfast has to offer. Nibbles will be included in the tour.

Starting point: Established @ 12p.m
Finishing point: Root & Branch Roastery @ 2:30pm

This tour dovetails nicely into the gig Root & Branch are hosting at Northern Lights Microbrew Pub as part of CoLab.

Tasting & Talks with Root & Branch Coffee Roasters

2:30pm: Tour of Root & Branch Coffee Roasters
(1B Jameson St. Belfast, BT72GU)
Meet at our Coffee Roastery & Brew Bar to see and hear about roasting and brewing in store.

2:45-3:45pm: Cupping & talk on Innovation of Coffee Processing.
(Upstairs at Northern Lights, across the street from the Coffee Roastery)
We’ve been working on a collaboration with the Bushmills Distillery for their North American market to produce a coffee designed to create the best Irish coffee ever conceived. The cask conditioned coffee will be roasted on Mon 27th/Tues 28th Nov and shipped to the US on Friday 1st December. So, we’ll keep some of it aside and run a cupping of it and talk a little about Innovation in Processing and how we did this one. The casks are stored at Northern Lights, so we can properly demo our approach to this one.

3:50-5pm: Roaster & Barista Feedback Loops.
(Upstairs at Northern Lights, across the street from the Coffee Roastery)
Our experience in talking with coffee shops is that they get too little support from Roasters and often Roasters don’t get the feedback they desire from coffee shops. Based around developing shared expectations and a common language, we ask, 'how can both Roasters and Baristas together help to deliver the best coffee experience for their customers?'.

5-7pm: Barista & Roaster Decompression Session - Beer Tasting
(Downstairs at Northern Lights, across the street from the Coffee Roastery)
A fantastic Irish micro-brewery called Whiplash are doing a tap-takeover downstairs and everyone would be welcome to head downstairs directly after to sample some great Irish craft beer.
