This role profile is a guide to the work you will initially be required to undertake. It may be changed from time to time to incorporate changing circumstances. It does not form part of your contract of employment.

Overall Purpose of the Role

As a Group Barista, you have completed the 4th level of the coffee development journey. You have an unmatched passion for coffee and are accountable for coffee quality and service across the group. You work closely with the Head Baristas and Unit Managers to ensure that training and development of baristas fulfils succession requirements, that the coffee standards are achieved in line with the Coffee Standards audits and that the coffee is perceived as a high quality product by your customers. You report into the Head of Business Excellence within Central Marketing and work closely with the stakeholders from across the business.

Key Accountabilities                        

·       Ensuring timely progress of baristas in the group through their coffee journeys to excel in coffee delivery, standards and service

·       Develop and conduct The Coffee Standards site audit and provide feedback to operations teams

·       Identify service and operational trends from The Coffee Standards audits and deliver unit specific action plans accordingly

·       Share best practice with Head Baristas and pioneer coffee evangelism across the group

·       Provide thought leadership and forward thinking practices around coffee excellence and delivery

·       Support baristas in training for external competitions and as representatives of the Compass UK & Ireland business

·       Support unit managers in growing coffee revenues, minimising costs and maximising profits through working practices

·       Work alongside operational leadership teams and sales teams to support new business bids and retention activity across all sectors

·       Plan and facilitate SCA coffee education courses on a quarterly basis for all barista levels

·       Produce and maintain barista tools , ensuring they are kept up to date and provide feedback to learners

·       Manage the seasonal drinks programme for both hot and cold handcrafted beverages, liaising with Foodbuy & the Head of Food and Beverage Innovation

·       Create a community in the group, working with Head Baristas to share this responsibility and build the coffee network via online media, social networking and focus groups

·       Manage the barista academy to ensure added value to both Compass Group UK and Ireland and sponsoring partners

·     SCA Professional level / AST qualified trainer

Barista Support | Califia Farms at London Coffee Festival

Califia Farms require baristas to help man their booth at London Coffee Festival this 6-9 April. 

Califia Farms are looking for a handful of baristas interested in working at the booth, paying a competitive hourly rate alongside providing a pass to the show. Ideally, these baristas would be available at least two days of the show, but some flexibility is possible. Baristas should demonstrate basic knowledge of espresso preparation, extraction and troubleshooting, but Califia Farms are willing to work with baristas that are still learning so long as they are excited and eager to listen and learn

Key responsibilities:

    •    Drive the prototyping activity for coffee-based beverages at cup level for all NESCAFÉ and Coffee-mate innovation projects

    •    Develop the capability of the Innovation and Coffee teams on creating consumer-oriented coffee beverages

    •    Deliver prototypes based on modern coffee-shop creations and generate authentic coffee cups representing concepts and ideas from ideation sessions, that will be used to gather consumer feedback through consumer tests

    •    Develop innovative and creative end-cup propositions, not limited to recipe but including complete product experiences, based on new ingredient combinations (e.g. unusual flavors) and disruptive 5-senses experiences as well as be involved in the development of the packaging solution and communication proposition

    •    Develop home-based recipes and menus for NESCAFÉ products in order to maximize consumer preference and broaden the experience of our brands

    •    Research continuously  information on novel food, beverage and coffee-shop trends

    •    Act as a NESCAFÉ ambassador, contributing to enhance the credibility of NESCAFÉ’s long-standing coffee reputation and credibility through proven expertise and  sustained innovation capability

Education and experience:

    •    3-5 years experience with proven skills on: coffee qualities, blending, roasting, grinding, brewing techniques, recipe formulation, food and beverage trends, creating coffee-shop beverages

    •    Experience, award/s on recognized barista competitions

    •    Experience working in a corporate environment is an advantage but not mandatory

The Barista Guild of Europe and Speciality Coffee Association of Europe have begun the search for a new Barista and Roaster Guild Coordinator to assist the current staff in running these two essential initiatives within the specialty coffee community.
 

About the role

Full-time. Immediate start
This full-time position, based in Europe, involves providing support in all aspects of the day-to-day running of both Guilds, including event planning and production, fundraising, marketing and communications, and administration.
The Guild Coordinator will report to the Guild Manager, under the direction of the BGE and RGE Working Groups and SCAE Membership Committee, and will liaise closely with the SCAE executive team.
 

Qualifications & Competences

  • Focused, self-motivated professional with background in and interest towards the speciality coffee industry
  • Fluency in English
  • Good writing and communication skills
  • Outstanding customer service standards and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisation and administration skills with a strong eye for detail and efficiency
  • Ability to manage own time and prioritise tasks to meet set goals and project deadlines.
  • Knowledge of SCAE and the Coffee Diploma System a distinct advantage
  • Experience or background in fundraising a plus
  • Proficient with computers (Mac OS preferred), spreadsheets, word processing, on-line cloud systems and project management tools.
  • Proficient with digital and social media — familiarity with design suites or graphic design skills a bonus
  • Bachelor degree or similar preferred
  • Willingness to travel (mostly in Europe)
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular office hours, as well as take on any task that needs doing to ensure the success of the projects


Duties & Responsibilities

The Guild Coordinator will assist the Guild Manager in the day-to-day coordination and planning of all BGE and RGE events and activities. The exact task-package will be varied and determined in discussion with the Guild Manager depending on the Coordinator’s background and skill-set, and consists of the following aspects:
 

Event planning and production

  • Scouting for suitable locations and event venues
  • Liaising with different logistic and production partners, as well as SCAE Events team
  • Assisting with program creation and planning, including education, social, AST and volunteer selection, etc.
  • Managing different stakeholders before, during and after the event
  • Solicit and report on feedback from different stakeholders
     

Marketing and communications

  • Writing blogposts, newsletters, press releases and social media messages
  • Website management and updates
  • Maintain relations with contractors or staff for marketing, graphic design, and media development
  • Assist in media partnership development
  • Design or assist in the production of event marketing, artwork, signage and promotional materials
  • Assist in merchandise product selection
  • Evaluate promotional and social media campaigns
     

Fundraising

  • Assist in attracting partners for all Guild activities and events as well as evaluating new partnership opportunities
  • Creation of sponsorship contracts
  • Assist in partnership communications including collecting feedback
  • Assist in the delivery of all contracted benefit packages
  • Assist in the creation of partnership brochures and event reports
     

Administration

  • Answer day-to-day emails and information requests about membership, partnership, events and all aspects of the organisation
  • Assist in basic budgeting and expense administration
  • Take minutes of meetings and write reports

World Coffee Events (WCE) is looking for baristas to be part of the coffee service at TED2016, held in the city of Vancouver, Canada on 15-19 February, 2016. In the past, WCE has organised the coffee service, in close collaboration with Barista Guild of America, and for the first time, we are excited to work together with WCE to extend the opportunity to members of the Barista Guild of Europe too.

TED is a global and renowned conference that brings together the most innovative and
important voices in technology, entertainment, and design (hence the acronym). The theme of its 2016 edition, is 'Dream'.
