From Education To Calibration
Marie Pohler, Commercial Director & Beverage Sensory System Specialist at FlavorActiV
Off-note, taint and defect education provides vital knowledge throughout the supply chain to support our pursuit of the perfect coffee, but how do we ensure our tasting aptitude remains as high as the day we were trained and became qualified?
Marie’s presentation will demonstrate how trained professional tasting panels across multiple beverage sectors regularly harness the power of calibration tools and software to both enhance and maintain their knowledge and abilities over time. In a hands-on session of blind tasting tests with a selection of GMP flavour references, Marie will show how over 40,000 sensory professionals regularly put themselves to the test to ensure they remain masters of their craft.
Marie will lead a sensory workshop designed to demonstrate the current trends in beverage quality control by using an effectively trained sensory panel.
The workshop will also demonstrate some of the common technology and panel calibration tools used by beverage brand owners to ensure their sensory QC panels are optimised.
Marie Pohler was born in Taiwan and educated in the USA. She has a double degree in Economics and Psychology from The Ohio State University.
Marie’s career path spread across a variety of industries and countries, from TEFEL Trainer in the Far East to commercial banker in the City of London, before she finally settled in the beautiful English countryside and joined a team of sensory managers at FlavorActiV in 2009.
Marie has been the Head of Soft Drinks Sensory at FlavorActiV for over 6 years and works very closely with some of the world’s largest beverage brands in regards to sensory program design and large scale sensory project implementation.
Marie is also a certified beverage sensory trainer and has many years of experience in delivering sensory workshops and courses in a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages around the world.
Marie holds a co-chair position at International Society of Beverage Technologist Sensory Committee.
Marie travels regularly for work and enjoys meeting people in different parts of the world but when she isn’t on the move, she likes shopping, yoga in her oriental garden, country walks and fusion cooking for her friends and families.
