Job Title: Group Barista

Responsible to: Head of Business Excellence – Central Marketing

Location: Mobile

This role profile is a guide to the work you will initially be required to undertake. It may be changed from time to time to incorporate changing circumstances. It does not form part of your contract of employment.

Overall Purpose of the Role

As a Group Barista, you have completed the 4th level of the coffee development journey. You have an unmatched passion for coffee and are accountable for coffee quality and service across the group. You work closely with the Head Baristas and Unit Managers to ensure that training and development of baristas fulfils succession requirements, that the coffee standards are achieved in line with the Coffee Standards audits and that the coffee is perceived as a high quality product by your customers. You report into the Head of Business Excellence within Central Marketing and work closely with the stakeholders from across the business.

Key Accountabilities                        

·       Ensuring timely progress of baristas in the group through their coffee journeys to excel in coffee delivery, standards and service

·       Develop and conduct The Coffee Standards site audit and provide feedback to operations teams

·       Identify service and operational trends from The Coffee Standards audits and deliver unit specific action plans accordingly

·       Share best practice with Head Baristas and pioneer coffee evangelism across the group

·       Provide thought leadership and forward thinking practices around coffee excellence and delivery

·       Support baristas in training for external competitions and as representatives of the Compass UK & Ireland business

·       Support unit managers in growing coffee revenues, minimising costs and maximising profits through working practices

·       Work alongside operational leadership teams and sales teams to support new business bids and retention activity across all sectors

·       Plan and facilitate SCA coffee education courses on a quarterly basis for all barista levels

·       Produce and maintain barista tools , ensuring they are kept up to date and provide feedback to learners

·       Manage the seasonal drinks programme for both hot and cold handcrafted beverages, liaising with Foodbuy & the Head of Food and Beverage Innovation

·       Create a community in the group, working with Head Baristas to share this responsibility and build the coffee network via online media, social networking and focus groups

·       Manage the barista academy to ensure added value to both Compass Group UK and Ireland and sponsoring partners

Person Specification                       


·     SCA Professional level / AST qualified trainer

·     Excellent time management, attention to detail and highly organised and efficient

·     Able to positively influence at all levels to achieve the desired end result

·     Ability to identify trends and respond accordingly

·     Build and maintain rapport with key stakeholders

·     A great coach and mentor, helping others to learn and develop

·     You are calm under pressure and communicate effectively


·     An entrepreneurial outlook

·     Experience in a field based role

·     Previous experience in the coffee industry

·     Willingness to succeed and make Compass Group UK & Ireland renowned for coffee excellence within the industry
